Colorado plummets in U-Haul’s ranking of growing states in 2024

DENVER ( KDVR ) — After several years of more people moving to Colorado than from Colorado, the Centennial State dropped 31 places in U-Haul’s ranking of states with the most growth in the U.S. in 2024.

Each year, the moving company U-Haul collects data from over 2.5 million one-way truck and trailer transactions to determine which states are seeing the most and least growth. While U-Haul said the data may not directly correlate to population growth or economic growth, it does offer insights into where people are moving.

The report reveals that there may have been more people moving out of Colorado than into the state in 2024.

Colorado plummets in ranking of growing states

For 2023, Colorado ranked in U-Haul’s Growth Index as the 9th state with the most growth in the U.S., with more people moving into the state than leaving. Colorado has ranked in the top 10 and remained a net-gain state, meaning there were more U-Haul arrivals than departures, for all but one year from 2015-2023.
