Nearly 900 flights delayed at Denver International Airport

Winter is rearing its ugly head once again this weekend, already causing over 600 flight delays at Denver International Airport.

As of 8 p.m., the airport experienced 851 flight delays, both incoming and outgoing, and 61 overall cancelations, according to flight tracker FlightAware .

The delays come as low ceilings and lingering fog struck the region Saturday morning, causing potentially hazardous conditions for pilots. A ground stop due to similar conditions also occurred Friday morning at the airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

An incoming snowstorm is expected to strike parts of Colorado Saturday afternoon, potentially causing even more delays and cancellations at the airport.

Bands of snow are expected to hit the Eastern Plains late afternoon and lasting through the evening hours. The Denver Gazette’s news partner, 9NEWS , expects around 1-4 inch in total east of the city.

Denver itself is only expected to see an inch or so, but places from DIA to southeast Aurora, as well as parts of eastern Douglas County and northern Elbert County, could see 4 to 5 inches.
