DENVER ( KDVR ) — Thousands of students across the Denver metro area ended up with a couple of extra hours of their winter break due to wintry weather .
Douglas County School District, Littleton Public Schools and Cherry Creek School District each called a delayed start Tuesday morning.

“The decision to close school, delay the start of school, or to release school early because of weather conditions is based on one factor: the safety of all students and staff,” Littleton Public Schools said on its website.
“The decision to close, delay or keep a school open during inclement weather is never taken lightly. We always keep the safety of our students, staff, and parents top of mind. Factors including snowfall, wind chill, road conditions and more are all taken into consideration,” Douglas County School District, which encompasses more than 850 square miles, said in a statement.
Denver Public Schools chose to proceed with school as scheduled on Tuesday.
