Jefferson County urges reporting illegal fireworks via app or online

DENVER (KDVR) – Jefferson County Communications Center Authority is asking residents not to call 911 when spotting illegal fireworks from July 3 to July 5, unless there is an immediate threat to life or property. Instead, people are being told to use the Jeffcom911 app.

The Jeffcom911 phone app is meant to help residents report illegal fireworks to emergency dispatchers at Jeffcom911. The emergency response dispatch center is hoping this will help reduce the volume of calls over the Fourth of July weekend when there is limited staffing available.

“Online and phone app reporting options have been put in place to help address the high volume of fireworks calls we receive each year. Last year nearly 500 citizens reported fireworks online, however, the center still received thousands of phone calls for illegal fireworks, so we would like to see more people use the online and phone app options this year,” stated Jeffcom 911 Executive Director, Jeff Streeter.
