String of fires being investigated as suspicious in Arapahoe County

DENVER (KDVR) — Crews investigated a string of “suspicious in nature” fires that broke out along the Highline Canal near Parker Road on Monday afternoon.

South Metro Fire Rescue first said it responded to a vegetation fire at 1181 Parker Rd. after 1:30 p.m., and the fire had spread to one business structure before 2 p.m. By 2:24 p.m., the agency said firefighters were working on hot spots along a nearby canal and in the structure’s attic and decking.

All occupants in the business evacuated safely, and Parker Road was closed near Mississippi Avenue while firefighters were on the scene.
