Arvada Fire responds to 13 suspected fireworks-related incidents over Fourth of July weekend

DENVER (KDVR) — Fire agencies across the Denver metro had a busy Independence Day weekend, with house fires caused by fireworks in some areas and large wildfires in others.

For Arvada Fire, the calls just kept coming in between the 4th and 5th of July. According to the department, crews responded to 16 fires between Friday and Saturday, and they suspect 13 of them to be fireworks-related.

“We don’t like telling people how they can or can’t celebrate the Fourth of July,” the agency said in a Facebook post. “However, these incidents are an example of the dangers of fireworks and why we post so often about leaving them to the pros! Grasses and fuels are dry and receptive to sparks, making fireworks a very real threat to homes and our Wildland Urban Interface.”

Arvada Fire said most of the fires were small outdoor ones, but a few became larger grass fires or threatened homes.
