CHERRY CREEK, Colo. (KDVR) — Denver police have identified a suspect in a string of car break-ins at a Cherry Creek apartment complex — the first time investigators have publicly named someone in the case since FOX31 began reporting on the crimes in June.
Police say they are looking for 34-year-old Zackary Steele, who has a criminal history and an active arrest warrant. Investigators believe he is tied to multiple break-ins at the Griffis Apartments, a high-end complex with a gated garage.

Chris Merkle, who lives at the complex, said his Jeep has been broken into twice in recent months.
“Every time a window is busted, you are looking at like $500,” Merkle said. “It’s sad everyone here actually has a story … where their car has been broken into.”
Merkle shared two police reports from incidents at the complex, including one from Aug. 11 that referenced damage, theft, and a Denver police detective assigned to the case. He said that the detective told him a suspect had been identified — a claim police later confirmed was Steele…
