DENVER — The City of Denver eliminated 928 jobs from the general fund in mass layoffs on Monday morning in an effort to save money. 171 people lost their jobs, making up 1.6% of the workforce.
The eliminated positions account for about 8.4% of the city’s workforce. Another 6% came from the city eliminating 665 vacant positions. 92 people had their positions transferred off the city’s general fund to be paid by other funding source aligned with their work, according to the city.
A spokesperson for the city said the layoff will save Denver about $100 million. Denver alleges the city is facing a $250 million budget shortfall between 2025 and 2026 due to flattening city revenues driven by national economic uncertainty and rising costs…
