DENVER (KDVR) — On Thursday, Colorado’s state politicians will be back in Denver for a special session to determine what will be cut from the state budget after losing over $1 billion in federal funding.
On Tuesday, Colorado Democrats discussed their goals in closing corporate tax loopholes and the state budget shortfall, caused by the “Big, Beautiful Bill” in the federal budget that was signed into law on July 4, according to the state budget director.
What cuts, layoffs in state and local government could mean for the economy
The state is facing a $750 million shortfall, and Gov. Jared Polis announced on Aug. 7 that a hiring freeze will be in effect starting Aug. 27 through the end of the year. The hiring freeze was announced by Polis at the same time he announced the special session slated for Aug. 21.
On Tuesday, Senate and House Democrats did not have specifics on where the money to fix Colorado’s budget would come from, instead saying that they’re working on a bill to get the governor’s office more involved in the budgeting cuts…
