5 young suspects seen breaking into over a dozen cars in Brighton neighborhood

BRIGHTON, Colo (KDVR) — The Brighton Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding several young suspects seen breaking into, or attempting to break into, over a dozen cars early Labor Day morning.

“It wasn’t just concentrated on one street, or one section, it was the whole neighborhood,” said Villages at Prairie Center resident Dawn Coleman, who has lived in the neighborhood for three years. “It happens a lot in our neighborhood, so we have to make sure we keep our cars in the garage all the time. We have to make sure in our neighborhood we communicate with each other, let each other know when something has happened.”

BPD says five young male suspects in a red sedan were seen breaking into, or attempting to break into, at least 12-15 cars between 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. Monday morning. Coleman was able to capture surveillance of what appears to be someone running back to a car without its headlights on, driving slowly down their street, during that timeframe.

“It’s very nerve-wracking to be honest with you. It makes me even more grateful that my car can actually fit in the garage,” said Coleman. “We have an alarm system on our house just because you never know, are they going to start breaking into our houses too?”…
