Family honors Sasha Chavez with vigil, seeking justice in her jail death

THORNTON, Colo. — Family and friends gathered at Homestead Hills Park in Thornton Saturday evening for a candlelight vigil honoring Sasha Chavez, who died in her cell at the Jefferson County Jail nearly three weeks after being arrested. The vigil called for accountability from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office regarding her death.

Deputies administered two doses of Narcan, an opioid-reversing medication, when they found Chavez unresponsive in her cell, according to a release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office.
