Colorado offers free support for students, families coping with trauma

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) -In the wake of Wednesday’s shooting at Evergreen High School, state officials are urging families and students to take advantage of free mental health resources.

Kelly Causey, deputy commissioner with Colorado Behavioral Health, said it is normal for communities to feel shaken after a tragedy like this. She encouraged parents to check in with their children and remind them that their feelings are valid.

Resources available include:

  • The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, available by call, text or chat 24/7.
  • I Matter Colorado, a program offering up to six free therapy sessions for children and teens.
  • https://OwnPath.co, a free tool that helps adults connect with mental health providers in their area.
