Experts warn of online radicalization risks after Colorado school shooting

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — Authorities in Jefferson County believe the 16-year-old gunman in Wednesday’s shooting at Evergreen High School was radicalized by an extremist network, though they have not yet disclosed a motive or details about how he obtained the firearm.

As the investigation continues, mental health professionals and parenting experts are urging families to be vigilant about young people’s online activity and to engage in open conversations about what they’re looking at.

“It just takes one video, one concept, one idea that catches somebody’s attention,” said Dr. Sheryl Ziegler, 9NEWS parenting expert and clinical psychologist. “When a tragedy happens, we start putting all of these puzzle pieces together.”…
