Aspen High School students walked out to protest gun violence Wednesday, one week after a student at Evergreen High School shot two of his classmates and himself on school grounds.
Students who walked out condemned gun violence in schools and called for policy change. The protest was part of a statewide student-led walkout in response to the Evergreen shooting that left the suspect dead and two students critically injured.
“I think just with the rise in violence across the country — in schools particularly — we felt that we needed to take action,” said AHS senior Josie Brands, who helped organize the walkout. “We should not have to do lockdown drills every couple of months, it’s not right.”…
