The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that it has partnered with House Majority Leader Monica Duran, who is sponsoring the new legislation that aims to have stronger penalties for street racing and reckless driving.

“Our citizens spoke, and we listened. Our streets are not racetracks,” said Sheriff Reggie Marinelli in a press release. “Illegal street racing puts lives at risk, strains law enforcement resources, and invites other forms of criminal behavior. The sheriff’s office said the proposed draft legislation will address a “growing public safety crisis” when it comes to street racing and reckless driving in the state and will include the following:

“Representative Duran has taken a bold stand for public safety, and we’re grateful for this partnership,” said Marinelli in the release. “This bill will help restore safety, peace, and accountability on our roads.”…
