Great Horned Owl stuck in barbed wire fence in Lakewood rescued

DENVER (KDVR) — A Great Horned Owl stuck in a barbed wire fence with an apparent broken wing was rescued and is now receiving treatment and rehabilitation.

On Wednesday morning, a person reported seeing an owl stuck in a fence near Morrison Road and Bear Creek Boulevard, so the Lakewood Police Department said its animal control and the city’s park rangers came to the rescue.

“This little guy had a rather scary start to his morning today,” police said.

The city said that rangers, “with patience and care,” were able to cut her free from the barbed wire and put her in a carrier.

They then took her to the Birds of Prey Foundation, a nonprofit in Broomfield that is “dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned raptors,” according to the website…
