Hikers warned about mountain lion activity along popular trail near Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Hikers hitting the trail in Morrison, Colorado may have noticed a sign that’s recently popped up on a popular local trail.

The sign reads “ADVISORY: Mountain lion activity reported in this area. Be aware of your surroundings. Leash your pets. If you see a mountain lion: Stay calm. Stand your ground. Don’t run. Be big and loud. If attacked, fight back” and it’s located at the start of Mount Morrison Trail.

Mount Morrison trail is one of the most heavily-trafficked trails in the area, though the human presence presumably hasn’t kept the big cats away, thus hikers should stay alert and on the look-out for the apex predator lurking nearby. The trail is a 3.5-mile route round-trip, with about 2,014 feet of vertical gain, per AllTrails. It’s located right behind the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, close enough that music can be heard on parts of the trail when an event is taking place…
