DENVER (KDVR) — The identity of the driver of a Lexus, hit head-on by a car break-in suspect who was fleeing from law enforcement on Tuesday, has been released by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
CBI said 51-year-old Steven Ainsworth, of Arvada, was the driver of the Lexus. Ainsworth had been driving west on U.S. 6 just before going through Tunnel 6 when his vehicle was struck head-on by a vehicle fleeing from the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office, pushing the car off the roadway, where it rolled and stopped in Clear Creek.

Ainsworth was life-flighted to a hospital and later pronounced dead. He was the sole occupant of the Lexus.
The crash ended a pursuit initiated by the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office at the intersection of Interstate 70 and U.S. 6, where a deputy was able to successfully use stop sticks to deflate the suspect vehicle’s tires.
