Did you know? You can turn around at a sobriety checkpoint

DENVER (KDVR) — Sobriety checkpoints are often set up across Colorado roadways, but according to the Colorado State Patrol, drivers don’t necessarily have to go through them.

Sobriety checkpoints are set up to get impaired drivers off the road and deter driving under the influence. However, if a driver doesn’t want to go through a checkpoint, they don’t have to.

CSP Impaired Driving Programs Manager Sgt. Jason Sparks walked FOX31’s Nicole Fierro through a checkpoint set up on U.S. Highway 6 in Golden, where Sparks said drivers can make a U-turn if they don’t want to go through the checkpoint.

“For this checkpoint, we have signs all the way up to Black Hawk, to the casinos, indicating, you know, sobriety checkpoint on this date at this location,” Sparks said. “We’ve got them all along Highway 6 and 119. So if someone doesn’t want to come through the checkpoint, they don’t have to. They can, you know, they can take an alternate route. They can make a U-turn.”…
