Denver Metro Health Leaders Urge Residents to Practice Safe Firearm Storage Amid Rising Gun Injuries

Denver Metro public health and hospital partners released a joint statement about rising firearm deaths and injuries in the region. They shared this information on National Injury Prevention Day, November 18. In Colorado, 75.2% of intentional firearm deaths are suicides. They also reported that one in five teens can access a loaded gun without adult permission in less than an hour.

The partners stress the need for secure firearm storage to prevent unintentional injuries, especially among children. They plan to offer resources on firearm safety, mental health support, and safe storage.
