Local film company to release documentary on iconic Bandimere Speedway

DENVER (KDVR) — A local film company is telling the story of Bandimere Speedway, an iconic racetrack in the mountains of Morrison that closed in 2023.

Bandimere Speedway, also known as Thunder Mountain, opened in 1958 at the base of Hogback Mountain. The Bandimere family ran the racetrack, hosting professional-level events, like the NHRA Mile-High Nationals, at high altitude.

After 65 years of the beloved drag strip, the last national event was hosted at the track on July 14-16, 2023, and October 2024 marked the last day the racetrack did business at the original location, 3051 S Rooney Road. But that wasn’t the last of Thunder Mountain.

Now, 5280 Pictures, a local film company, along with SKG Productions, Ltd and in association with Big Red Nose Productions, is ready to tell the story through a documentary…
