Black Colorado leaders express disappointment in rollback of DEI initiatives

DENVER (KDVR) — Leaders of the Black community in Colorado gathered at the Capitol on Friday, where they raised concerns about issues they have seen rising for Black Coloradans in the wake of the end of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts as mandated by the federal government.Black leaders from across Colorado want state organizations and institutions to know they plan to apply pressure to make sure diversity remains a pillar in Colorado.

“We as black people are not, I repeat, are not scared of you. We will not stand by and take the threats, we will not stand by as America and the Trump administration tries to bully people across this nation and here in Colorado,” said state Representative Regina English, Colorado Democratic Legislative Black Caucus Vice Chair.

Leaders from organizations like Colorado’s Legislative Black Caucus, Greater Metro Denver Ministerial Alliance, National Action Network, Rocky Mountain NAACP and more came out to express their disappointment in various institutions scaling back their diversity and inclusion efforts.

“DEI is not optional in the state of Colorado. It is necessary because of the history of this country. A history that demands we confront inequity with courage, not denial, with action, not avoidance.
