Family displaced from home of 20 years by Lakewood apartment blaze

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A family of four remains displaced one week after a fire tore through their apartment building near 13th Avenue and Lamar Street in Lakewood, with fire officials attributing the blaze to an unattended space heater left on a wooden deck.

West Metro Fire Rescue said the fire was reported around 6:40 a.m. on Nov. 15 when callers reported smoke and flames coming from an upper-level unit. The blaze displaced approximately 30 people and killed one cat, according to the agency.

Jonathan Campos said his family had lived in the apartment for 20 years. His mother was home alone and asleep when the fire broke out in a unit above theirs…
