Aurora shooting suspect expected to be committed indefinitely, charges to be dropped

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — A man accused of randomly shooting three people in June 2024 in Aurora is expected to be committed to a locked mental health facility and see the criminal charges against him dismissed.

Austin Benson, 36, has been deemed by doctors mentally incompetent to stand trial – and they also concluded there is no reasonable likelihood that treatment will change that.

Under Colorado law, the criminal case against him cannot go forward…
