Federal lawsuit filed over woman’s death in Jefferson County jail custody

DENVER — A federal wrongful death lawsuit has been filed in connection with the 2023 death of a woman who was in custody in the Jefferson County jail.

Ashley Raisbeck, 27, died Dec. 16, 2023. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said at the time that medical staff in the jail were conducting routine rounds on inmates in the detox program when they saw that Raisbeck appeared disoriented. The sheriff’s office said she was immediately taken to the medical unit, where she later collapsed but was breathing.

Medical staff administered three rounds of Narcan, according to the sheriff’s office, but she stopped breathing so they began CPR. Paramedics took over CPR and took her to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased…
