Train murder victim’s family thankful for conviction after 9 years

DENVER (KDVR) — More than nine years after a woman was murdered on an Amtrak train heading to Denver, her killer was convicted on Friday, and her family finally feels a sense of peace.

In September 2016, 28-year-old Marina Placensia was found dead in her seat on an Amtrak train heading to Denver’s Union Station, believed by a doctor to have been suffocated to death. On Friday, Placensia’s then partner, Angelo Mantych, was convicted on a first-degree murder charge in her death nearly a decade later, but according to her family, worth every day of waiting.
