Wheat Ridge Police Department
Police in a Colorado community are warning residents about a surge in coyote activity after officers on Tuesday responded to three separate coyote calls within 30 minutes.
The Wheat Ridge Police Department on Tuesday warned residents of the Denver suburb to remove food attractants from their properties and to keep close guard over their pets. Police said two small dog deaths reported in the fall are believed to have been the result of coyote activity, though they could not rule out the possibility of other wildlife, “such as bobcats.”
“Always keep your dogs on a leash and keep a 5-foot maximum distance. Scan your backyards for wildlife prior to letting pets outside, especially smaller dogs and cats,” police said. “If you have smaller dogs, stand outside with them. Your presence will help keep coyotes from entering your yard (standing in the doorway will not deter a coyote). You must be present with your pet.”…
