BLACK HAWK, Colo. (KDVR) — Some casinos in Black Hawk and Central City have become gathering points for the community, while others have been forced to close during Friday’s power outage.
Central City was nearly empty Friday afternoon. Businesses and casinos up and down Main Street had their doors locked, lights off and hand-drawn signs in their windows explaining the temporary closure.

“We are experiencing quite a heavy wind day and as part of that Xcel Energy has chosen to shut the power down to our area,” Erica Ferris, director of casino marketing at Monarch Casino Resort Spa, Black Hawk said.
According to Ferris, the power went out just after 6 a.m. on Friday and the casino’s generators kicked on. She said when the property was built a few years ago, generators were installed to deal with power outages during winter storms…
