DENVER (KDVR) — Record-breaking warmth in Colorado this week had many yards looking more like early spring than winter. Now, with snow back in the forecast for Sunday, homeowners are wondering what that sudden swing means for trees, shrubs, and gardens — especially with some plants starting to bud.

Plant experts say while the rapid temperature changes can be stressful, most established trees and shrubs in Colorado are built to handle the state’s unpredictable weather.

“Plant material here in Colorado is pretty resilient,” said Richard Ortega with Nick’s Garden Center and Farm Market in Aurora. “Even with the mild weather and this cold snap, they’ll get through it okay.”
