DENVER (KDVR) — Search and rescue teams found one climber dead after falling 500 feet off a 13,000-foot mountain on New Year’s Eve.
The Alpine Rescue Team said on the afternoon of New Year’s Eve, they were called to the northeast face of the Citadel, which is a 13,294-foot, rugged mountain that’s northeast of the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel.
According to the rescue team’s post on Facebook, a couple of experienced climbers tried to find a clear route to the summit after they were tired from post-holing, or sinking into the snow. The climbers chose steep rock, but close to the top, one climber had a “long and very serious fall.”…
