Why Denver Fire called in a national ATF team after massive Leetsdale apartment fire

DENVER (KDVR) — A specialized federal team from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is now assisting with the investigation into the massive fire that tore through an apartment complex under construction on Leetsdale Drive.

Denver Fire requested assistance from the ATF’s National Response Team, a group of subject-matter experts that responds to some of the largest, most challenging fire and explosion scenes across the country.

Pre-evacuation orders issued for Deer Creek Fire

The ATF said it’s not because a crime has been confirmed, but because of the scale, complexity and safety concerns surrounding the scene.
