In a statement from the Colorado Division of Oil and Public Safety, an unknown number of customers in the Denver Metro Area received contaminated fuel while filling up at the pump.

“The Division of Oil and Public Safety (OPS) is committed to protecting consumers and took immediate action to address reports of suspected contaminated fuel.”

Colorado Division of Oil and Public Safety Investigates Diesel Fuel Mixed With Regular Unleaded

OPS began receiving complaints on Thursday, January 8th claiming that some consumers regular unleaded fuel was contaminated with diesel fuel.

Nearly 200 Complaints Filed Over Contaminated Fuel at Denver-Area Gas Stations

Since Friday, January 9th, there have been approximately 200 complaints regarding contaminated fuel.

Costco, King Soopers, Murphy Express Among Stations Linked to Contaminated Fuel Reports

These reports confirmed that this fuel was sold at Costco, Murphy Express, King Soopers, and other locations.

State Inspectors Confirm Fuel Contamination at Costco in Sheridan

At 9:00 AM on Thursday, OPS began receiving  the initial reports and by 10:00 AM an inspector was out and confirmed at the Costco in Sheridan that there was visual evidence of contamination, according to officials.

HF Sinclair Terminal in Henderson Identified as Source of Contaminated Fuel

Reports are confirming that this contaminated fuel originated from the HF Sinclair terminal in Henderson and was distributed  to gas stations between 2:00 PM on. January 7th and 6:00 AM on January 8th.

Gas stations that were made aware of the contamination have stopped selling the fuel, and replacing it with the correct fuel…
