Stolen statues found shattered after chiseled off Catholic church in Denver

DENVER (KDVR) — Two statues were found shattered after video surveillance showed someone chiseling them off the entrance of a Catholic church in the middle of the night.

The two solid brass statues, Saint Paul and Saint Rita, had been sitting on the outside of Holy Ghost Catholic Church on California Street since 1928. That is, until early March, when a video showed someone using what appeared to be a chisel and hammer to remove the statues.

Now all that is left are empty spaces in the wall and screws.

The statues were missing for about a week, until the Denver Police Department was able to recover both statues. However, they didn’t look the same.
