Family of fallen Navy SEAL heartbroken by theft at his memorial site

LITTLETON, Colo. (KDVR) — The family of fallen Navy SEAL Danny Dietz says they are heartbroken after a memorial honoring him and 18 other service members was vandalized.

The memorial, located in Littleton, commemorates the 19 U.S. service members killed in Afghanistan in 2005 during Operation Red Wings. A bronze eagle statue, which sat atop the tribute, was cut off and stolen, leaving only mounting hardware behind.

“It just means so much,” Dietz’s mother, Cindy Dietz-Marsh, said of the eagle. “The eagle is my son’s spirit animal.”

Dietz, a Colorado native, was among those killed during a counterinsurgency mission in June 2005. He is honored locally with a statue, next to the memorial listing all 19 service members who died…
