Altoona road closed after semi crashes into utility pole, knocking it onto metal building

ALTOONA, Iowa — An Altoona road is closed after a semi hit a utility pole, knocking it over onto a metal building at Adventureland.

Just before 11 a.m., emergency crews were called to the 400 block of 34th Avenue SW in Altoona. A spokesperson for Adventureland told WHO 13 that a semi had tried to enter the park at the wrong gate, caught a power line, and knocked the pole onto a metal building.

The Altoona Police Department said MidAmerican Energy crews are on scene working to repair the utility pole and that the road closure is expected to last for several hours.

A spokesperson for MidAmerican Energy told WHO 13 that the power line that fell was energized, and for safety reasons, the circuit was turned off. Approximately 20 customers, including parts of Adventureland, were impacted.
