A WALGREENS location has announced its imminent closure due to decreased foot traffic and disruptive construction in the area.
A spokesperson for the pharmacy chain confirmed the closure of the Iowa location on February 26.
The pharmacy has been in downtown Des Moines since February 1929 and has moved locations multiple times.
Des Moines is the capital of Iowa, located in the mid-south of the state.
After four location changes, the Walgreens has stayed in its current residence since 1994.
The pharmacy chain has eight other locations in Des Moines, as well as a specialty pharmacy that strictly fills prescriptions for people with complex diseases, according to Des Moines Register.
WHY IS IT CLOSING
Certain parts of the streets in the nearby area were blocked off for almost a decade after a building fire, making it hard for people walking downtown to enter the store.
The development of the downtown area has also made it hard to access the location such as the skywalk that hung over the street.
