Iowa man sentenced to time served for shooting at deputy before standoff at motel

DES MOINES, Iowa – A man facing charges forshooting at a deputy and barricading himself inside a Saylor Township motel will no longer be in jail. According to a spokesperson for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Scott Smith was pulled over by deputies back in September. Smith “exited the vehicle, fired off a few rounds at our deputy, and proceeded to barricade himself inside the Budget Inn.”
