Des Moines Man Arrested For Possession of 30,000 Pills

DES MOINES, IA – According to a press release issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa on Thursday, January 25, 2024, Sharmarke Omar Mohamed, a 35-year-old Des Moines resident, faced arrest on Sunday, January 21, 2024, and made his initial appearance before a United States Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

According to the press release, Mohamed is charged with one felony drug offense: possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, as per the allegations outlined in the unsealed complaint.

The Des Moines Police Department’s investigation led to Mohamed’s location as he traveled towards Des Moines from Arizona.

The Iowa State Patrol conducted a traffic stop in Decatur County, Iowa.

A subsequent federal search warrant for Mohamed’s vehicle uncovered around 30,000 counterfeit pills, suspected to contain fentanyl and weighing approximately 3,182 grams, in the luggage area, according to the press release.
