UC Officially Announces Tyson Veidt as New Defensive Coordinator: ‘A Tremendous Developer of Talent’

CINCINNATI — Cincinnati football officially announced the hiring of Iowa State linebackers coach Tyson Veidt as the new defensive coordinator this week.

Veidt’s been a part of multiple top-five defenses in the Big 12 since he arrived in Ames as the Cyclones rank ninth nationally in yards per play allowed since 2020 (5.1 YPP).

Cincinnati was last among Big 12 teams in that stat last season.

“We are excited to welcome Tyson Veidt and his family to Cincinnati,” head coach Scott Satterfield said in a release . “Having coached at Iowa State for eight years, Tyson knows the Big 12 and helped build ISU into one of the country’s top defenses. He’s coached outstanding linebackers during his career, and proven to be a tremendous developer of talent. He brings head coaching experience and ties to Ohio, which I believe will serve our program well as we look to take great strides in our second year in the Big 12 this coming fall.”

Veidt just coached former walk-on linebacker Caleb Bacon to one of the 10 best Pro Football Focus grades nationally among all linebackers. ISU also ranked second in the Big 12 in total defense (363.2) and rush defense (134.2) this past season.
