Pesky pothole causes over $3,000 in repairs to Iowa couple’s car

DES MOINES, Iowa — Last Friday night, there were around 15 or so cars that ended up with flat or damaged tires due to a pothole on East 33rd Street.

It was cool and rainy in the early evening, and drivers could not see a giant pothole near the Grandview Park School.

Bill and Mary Morlan, who live near Ankeny in Saylorville, were on their way home from a late afternoon movie at Copper Creek when their Toyota Camry struck the giant pothole.

“Our tire blew, our front right tire blew,” said Mary Morlan.

“So, then we made it to the top of the hill in front of the elementary school, there at the Catholic Church, and of course had difficulty and I knew right away we needed to call Triple A and Triple A responded quite quickly,” said Bill Morlan.

The couple noticed another driver having the same trouble they did. Then at the body shop they noticed a pizza delivery driver who had tire issues due to the pothole.

“We reported it to the police right away right at 6:15,” said Bill. We thought they would put a barricade up on that because it was a very hazardous hole that it could’ve had a serious accident there as well.”
