Child seriously injured, 4 others hurt in Des Moines crash

DES MOINES, Iowa — Police have provided more information on a crash that injured five people , one seriously, Monday night in northeast Des Moines.

Emergency crews were called to E. 14th St. and Arthur Ave. around 8:30 p.m. on a report of a crash. That’s a few blocks south of Grand View University.

Sgt. Paul Parizek with the Des Moines Police Department said a truck was traveling north on E. 14th St. when the driver lost control and the truck crossed into the southbound lanes and struck an SUV.

All three occupants of the truck were transported to the hospital including a 12-year-old who suffered serious injuries, Sgt. Parizek said. The two occupants of the SUV were also transported to the hospital.

Sgt. Parizek said everyone involved in the crash is expected to survive.

The crash is being investigated by the DMPD’s Traffic Unit.
