Police have identified the man who died Monday after being hit by a car on Des Moines’ north side as 41-year-old Joshua Scott Laird.
The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. Monday in the 4300 block of N.W. Second Street just north of the Park Fair Mall, according to a Polk County Sheriff’s Office news release. Witnesses at the scene provided medical care, but Laird was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s office believes Laird was walking in the southbound lanes of Northwest Second Street at the time of the crash. Witnesses said the area was not well-lit and Laird was wearing dark clothing, according to the news release.
The people in the vehicle who hit Laird cooperated with investigators, the sheriff’s office said.
