Van Meter hoops sweep week, Raccoon River Wrestling sends nine to state

The final stretch is approaching, and the Bulldogs picked up some key wins to setup a postseason run. (Note: Events covered Jan. 23-29)

Boys Basketball (10-6)

With a 60-39 win over West Central Valley (5-9) on Friday, the Bulldogs won their fourth game in a row for their longest stretch of the season.

That was brought forth by one of the teamโ€™s most efficient outings of the season, as the team made 58 percent of its shots led by John Braun who missed just one shot en route to a 12-point performance. Cael Trudo led the team with 14 points total.

The win puts Van Meter in the driverโ€™s seat in the West Central, sitting atop the conference standings with a 10-2 league record. Thatโ€™s half a game above Madrid (9-2) and despite an early loss to the Lions, are well-positioned over fourth place Des Moines Christian (6-3) due to postponements that have yet to be played.

Girls Basketball (9-8)

Van Meter went back a game above .500 with a 47-37 win over West Central Valley (6-8) on Friday, avoiding the first loss to the Wildcats since 2012.
