Van Meter hoops sweep week, Raccoon River Wrestling sends nine to state

The final stretch is approaching, and the Bulldogs picked up some key wins to setup a postseason run. (Note: Events covered Jan. 23-29)

Boys Basketball (10-6)

With a 60-39 win over West Central Valley (5-9) on Friday, the Bulldogs won their fourth game in a row for their longest stretch of the season.

That was brought forth by one of the team’s most efficient outings of the season, as the team made 58 percent of its shots led by John Braun who missed just one shot en route to a 12-point performance. Cael Trudo led the team with 14 points total.

The win puts Van Meter in the driver’s seat in the West Central, sitting atop the conference standings with a 10-2 league record. That’s half a game above Madrid (9-2) and despite an early loss to the Lions, are well-positioned over fourth place Des Moines Christian (6-3) due to postponements that have yet to be played.

Girls Basketball (9-8)

Van Meter went back a game above .500 with a 47-37 win over West Central Valley (6-8) on Friday, avoiding the first loss to the Wildcats since 2012.
