DES MOINES, Iowa (WHO) — Another big cat is now calling the Blank Park Zoo home!
A seven-year-old male snow leopard named “MJ” moved to the zoo in December, from the Bronx Zoo, and is now getting to know his new habitat.
“MJ is a typical snow leopard. He is very cautious about his new space, so there will be times you will not see him outside until he gets comfortable with his surroundings,” said Jay Tetzloff, chief animal officer at Blank Park Zoo.
Blank Park Zoo adds a new tiger, otter, bats & birds
The Blank Park Zoo hasn’t had snow leopards since 2017, when lion cubs were born at the zoo and the snow leopard habitat needed to be re-purposed to give the lions more room. The pair of snow leopards living here at the time moved on to another zoo.
