URBANDALE, Iowa- Volunteers distributed over 180,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to troop leaders on Saturday during their Mega Drop.
The Mega Drop is the busiest day for the Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa, as volunteers help troop leaders pick up their first orders from the cookie warehouse in Urbandale. The day started at 7:30AM and is projected to last until 3:30PM.
The Girl Scout Cookie Program officially kicked off on February 1st and will last until March 24th this year.
The theme for this year’s program is “Unbox the Future,” which is meant to motivate girls to break the barriers that keep them boxed in.
“It’s teaching them the life skills to be whatever they want to be and move past those barriers. So, every sale of a cookie package helps them move towards learning new and exciting things for their future,” said Samie Swinton, the Director of Communications for the Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa.
There are nine flavors that cookie lovers can try:
- Adventurefuls
- Caramel Chocolate Chip
- Caramel deLites
- Lemonades
- Peanut Butter Patties
- Peanut Butter Sandwich
- Thin Mints
- Toast-Yay!
- Trefoils
