It took the 13th practice of Iowa State’s 2018 fall camp for the coaching staff to learn Brock Purdy was going to be special. The Cyclones were working through their second big scrimmage of fall camp when Purdy, facing the first-team defense as a member of the third-team offense, drove his group down the field against a unit that would go on to lead the Big 12 in defense. At the goal line, Purdy ran a shovel pass and faked a throw right at All-Big 12 defensive end JaQuan Bailey, before running in for a touchdown.
