Major Des Moines specialty clinic cuts ties with Medicaid insurer. How that affects you:

The Iowa Clinic, a major multispecialty medical center in the Des Moines area, is no longer accepting coverage from one of the state’s Medicaid insurers.

Patients with health insurance under Iowa Total Care, one of the managed-care organizations offering Medicaid coverage to Iowans, no longer have coverage for their care at Iowa Clinic as of Jan. 24, the clinic confirmed to the Register.

Iowa Clinic Spokesperson Amy Varcoe said the organization was not able to reach a new agreement with Iowa Total Care for this year, meaning that the insurer is no longer considered in-network at the Iowa Clinic.

Neither Iowa Total Care nor Iowa Clinic has offered details on why the two parties could not agree over a new contract.

The Iowa Clinic has declined to share how many patients are impacted by the cut ties with Iowa Total Care. But for those patients, this disagreement means their health insurance will no longer pay for any care they receive at any Iowa Clinic locations.
