DES MOINES, Iowa (WHO)– Two people have been charged in connection with the homicide of a Des Moines man who was shot outside of a bar in the Drake neighborhood in 2022.
The shooting happened outside of Rico’s in the 2300 block of University Avenue on December 10, 2022, according to Sgt. Paul Parizek with the Des Moines Police Department. Police said 35-year-old Tyrone Hutchins was found with gunshot injuries on the sidewalk outside the bar. He was transported to the hospital but died.

A 29-year-old woman was also shot in the incident. She was treated and released from the hospital.
On Thursday, Sgt. Parizek announced charges have been filed against:
- James Mikale Wiggins, 35, first-degree murder (class A felony)
- Marcell Navell Wiggins, 38, going armed with intent (class D felony) and felon in possession of a firearm (class D felony)
Police say the men are brothers and went to Rico’s to confront Hutchins. Both were armed with handguns at the time. Marcell and a third person initiated the confrontation and when Hutchins tried to leave the bar, he was shot by James.
