DES MOINES, Iowa — Thursday marks the launch day for Rooted Women’s Healthcare Cooperative of Iowa. Rooted seeks to close the gap in health disparities by providing safe, affordable, cultural-based, patient-centered care.
Tinisha Brooks, a Cofounder, Owner, and Executive Director of the co-op said that creating a space for Black women to receive healthcare is one of the organization’s goals.

“We just want to provide care that fights disparities that are existing currently amongst Black women. But we really want to provide a space for women in their families to feel comfortable and have cultural, congruent, evidence-based care,” Brooks said.
Black Iowans have a higher mortality rate than white Iowans. Rooted is working to change that.
