Des Moines Residents Convicted of Attempted Murder: Sentencing Set for April

John Andrew Alcorn III, Robert David Lyons, and Rebecca Marie Lyons, all residents of Des Moines, were convicted of attempted murder by a Polk County jury. This conviction is linked to a shooting incident in March 2022. Alcorn and Robert Lyons were also found guilty of two counts of willful injury causing serious injury, a Class C felony. Rebecca Lyons was convicted of assault with intent to commit serious injury, an aggravated misdemeanor.

The shooting victims, Stephanie Clark, Jeremy Coleman, and Jerrel Elam, were from the Quad Cities area. They had traveled from Moline, Illinois, to recover stolen money and property from Alcorn at the Lyons’ home. The shooting occurred at the Lyons’ residence on the 39th block of 11th Place.

Trial evidence indicated that the defendants shot at the victims 48 times without provocation. Clark and Coleman were injured and sustained serious injuries from the shooting. Elam, the third victim, was not reported as injured.

Attempted murder carries a 25-year sentence, with a mandatory minimum of 17.5 years in prison. The sentencing for the three convicted individuals is set for April 5, 2024.
